Curtain Tie

At what height do my curtain tie backs need to be.?
I have just decorated both my lounge and dining room and want to fit tie backs to the curtains which are full length. My problem is where to position the tie backs in relation to the curtain height. Is it at mid height, a third, two thirds or just a guess?. Also, how far from the edge of the window reveal do I fix the retaining hooks.
To suit your taste, get a friend to hold back the curtains at various heights, and at the same time mark where you need to fix them so that they are gathered in but not squashed up.
As a general rule try at one third up from the floor and see what it looks like.
