How much fabric do I use to make a corset?

I found a site to make a custom pattern and I know what kind of fabric I want to use, but how much fabric do I need?
I am 5’7″ and I am fairly skinny, most of the sites that I read, said to use at least 2 yards of fabric. 1 yard for the exterior and 1 for the interior. That amount seems like a bit much and I was wondering exactly how much should I use.

Depends on your size and the cut of the pattern. If you’re making a true corset, you’ll want coutil or similarly closely woven, unstretchable fabric for the base.
