what thread do I use with dupioni silk and organza?
I was just wondering what thread do I use to sew with dupioni silk and organza fabric?
Use a Long staple fiber 100% polyester thread such as Mettler or Gutterman when sewing these fine fabrics. Silk thread should be used for any top-stitching on the dupioni, this give a high fashion couture touch. If you have the money, silk thread is a luxury way to sew the whole garment. If the organza is very fine then you might want to use a fine number40 silk thread or a very fine specialty thread such as coats and clark dual duty plus extra fine. Don’t use spun polyester, cotton wrapped polyester core other than marked extra fine, top stitching thread or pure cotton thread. The spun polyester is too cheap and fuzzy, the other are too thick and coarse.
Use a fine needle in the sewing machine and test tension settings, presser foot pressure, stitch length and width on scraps before doing your fashion garment sewing. These fine fabrics need a bit of practice in order to work out any sewing machine issues. It’s time well-invested.
