What is the origin of silk?

curious… the origin could be a dynasty (Qin, Zhou, Shang etc…) or it could be a time (500 BCE)
i know it came from classical china though

In Chinese Folklore there is Ts’ an Nu . She lived in the Kingdom of Shu (Modern Ssuch’uan.) She disappeared into the air wrapped in the skin of a magick horse. Ten days later the skin was found at the foot of a mulberry tree. Ts’ an Nu had changed into a silk worm, was eating the mulberry-leaves, and spinning for herself a silken garment.

There is much more, but it ends with her being the wife of Emperor Huang Ti.
