Why do specific states have high, medium or low unemployment rates?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_unemployment_rate If you scroll down you can see the list. I wonder why Rhode Island has such a high percentage & North Dakota is so low for example. I know Alaska & Texas have natural resources that explain their lower unemployment.

Easy question, it depends on the population per sq mile. Rhode Islands Unemployment rate is much higher due to having so many people crammed into such a small state, you have east coast luxuries so that draws so many people into RI plus its a coastal state. Where North Dakota I remember when I drove across it, is very remote. You can drive hours with out seeing anything, and there is no reason really for anyone to move out there cept for raising cattle. People dont move to North Dakota for jobs, because of one its location and 2 there is just not alot of opportunities. There is not alot of big business around North Dakota. I am not saying that there is no big business but when you look at the average population per sq mile its fairly easy to realize they dont have an influx of new citizens with in the state.
