I removed a small piece of tape from the top, outter, part of my glove comparment?

I have 1996 Cheverolt Lumini and I was trying to fix my glove comparment. I noticed a small, piece of tape on the top, outter, part of the glove comparment. I could not see all of the tape because I did not remove the glove compartment. Is there a reason why the tape was there?
